Too often, home care is treated like a checklist—medications, meals, appointments—reducing support to a series of tasks. But aging is not just a medical journey; it’s a deeply human one. True care means being present, not just being helpful. It means tuning into the quiet signals—the subtle changes in mood, the longing for conversation, the need to feel seen, heard and valued.
At Angels There for You, care begins with a genuine interest in the well-being of the client. Its caregivers—aptly called “Angels”—do more than assist with daily routines. They recognize and respond to the emotional and spiritual dimensions of aging, offering companionship, dignity and a sense of belonging. This holistic care transforms caregiving into something truly restorative, helping seniors feel not just supported, but deeply understood—and genuinely at home.
“Our caregivers are the angels, not in name, but in how they show up with heart, with humility and with a deep sense of purpose,” says Patricia Cruz, owner and manager. “It takes a dream to build a team, but it takes a team to make that dream true. Mine became real because every one of them chose to live it to provide seniors with the kind of home care that walks beside them.”
This quiet attentiveness became the company’s defining strength during the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when fear and uncertainty were high, Angels There for You stepped up, serving more than 300 seniors with the dedication of 200 caregivers. Remarkably, not a single client or caregiver contracted the virus. That outcome speaks not just to strong safety protocols, but to a culture rooted in vigilance, compassion and unwavering relational care.
In 2000, Cruz took her mission beyond the walls of individual homes and into the heart of the community by founding Senior Link, a nonprofit grassroots network created to serve seniors with little to no resources of their own. Over the last 25 years, Senior Link has supported more than 2000 seniors in different communities. Through year-round events, targeted outreach and efforts to help trusted organizations—like the ALS Society, Parkinson’s Society, Cancer Society and the Mental Wellness Association of British Columbia—Angels There for You ensures seniors facing complex health challenges don’t face them alone. From curated resources to direct support, the team becomes a bridge connecting those in need to the services.
This ecosystem of care—clients, caregivers and community—emerged from Cruz’s own experience of hardship. The idea for Angels There for You took shape when she had lost her home, her job and her financial stability. With little more than a desire to serve and a belief in the dignity of aging, she began building a company from the ground up—training caregivers in practical skills, empathy and the practice of presence.
Today, 25 years later, Angels There for You has supported over 12,000 seniors and empowered 5,000 caregivers. Its success is not defined by scale or revenue, but by every life uplifted, every connection formed and every moment of comfort delivered. Because meaningful change doesn’t always begin with systems, sometimes, it begins with one person deciding to care and never stopping.
