Nutrition-rich, medically tailored meals are transforming how older adults live independently and age healthily at home. Following recognition as Elderly Meal Delivery Solution of the Year 2025 by Elder Care Review, Homestyle Direct stands at the forefront to provide access, dignity and choice through quality nutrition delivered directly to doorsteps across the country.
Since 1997, Homestyle Direct has helped Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries maintain independence by offering nutritious meals created by registered dietitians and tailored to individual health needs. Through partnerships with health plans, state agencies and more, Homestyle Direct ensures seniors enjoy better nutrition, greater independence, and better support to age in place.
“Homestyle Direct stands out for its longstanding commitment to nutritious, reliable, and compassionate meal solutions for seniors,” said an Elder Care Review spokesperson. “Their dedication to health, convenience and service makes them a leader in senior nutrition and a deserving recipient of this year’s award.”
Empowering Seniors to Age in Place
Nothing matters more to older adults than the ability to remain at home. According to a 2020 AP-NORC Long-Term Care Poll, 89% of Americans prefer to receive care in their own homes. Homestyle Direct helps make that possible by addressing one of the most significant barriers to independence: nutrition.
Many seniors face challenges such as limited mobility, chronic health conditions, or financial constraints that prevent consistent access to healthy food. Without these essential supports, many are forced into institutional care earlier than necessary. Homestyle Direct’s medically tailored meal (MTM) program reverses that trend by delivering nutritious, ready-to-heat meals directly to their homes.
Homestyle Direct’s services not only provide emotional fulfillment but also significant cost savings. According to data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), home-based care costs about 60% less than institutional care—roughly $32,000 annually compared to more than $90,000 in a nursing home. By enabling people to stay home safely, Homestyle Direct reduces strain on both families and the healthcare system.
“For 30 years, our mission has been to ensure older adults across the country have access to great-tasting meals that support healthier living,” said Jeff Barteau, CEO of Homestyle Direct. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our team and the trust of our members.”
Tailored Nutrition for Healthier Living
Each Homestyle Direct meal is crafted to meet the standards set by the Older Americans Act, providing approximately one-third of an adult’s daily recommended intake, with menus following guidelines from the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association, and American Diabetes Association.
Homestyle Direct’s commitment to variety and member feedback is evident in its menu refreshes twice a year with fall/winter and spring/summer menus.
“I truly appreciate all you do for me, not just the meals, but being kind and patient and helping me out when I need it - it truly means so very much,” said Ami from Indiana, a member for five years. “It warms my heart and makes me feel blessed to know that Homestyle Direct cares for me and so many others. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
Safe Meals, Delivered with Care
Homestyle Direct’s distribution model combines efficiency and reliability. Meals are shipped biweekly, with each customer receiving 14 to 28 meals per delivery. To maintain quality, meals are transported through refrigerated trucks at -10°F before being routed through one of 11 FedEx distribution centers for last-mile delivery within 24-48 hours.
Homestyle Direct’s call center, a hallmark of its service, answers calls within 20 seconds. Backed by 32 trained representatives, including dietitians and nurses, the support team ensures every member receives timely, personal assistance.
Expanding Access Nationwide
With more than nine million meals delivered annually across 32 states, Homestyle Direct continues to expand its reach. A new facility in Lewisburg, Tennessee, has doubled production and distribution capacity for Homestyle Direct, enhancing the ability to serve beneficiaries in the eastern United States.
“We remain committed to our mission,” says Barteau, “and expansion provides us the opportunity to help more people in need. That remains our focus – eliminating food insecurity by ensuring everyone has access to a good meal.”
